Sue Hepker

Sue Hepker was born and educated in South Africa, where she taught, lectured, and was the book selector for READ,(the largest literacy non profit in Africa). She developed a multilingual Language and Math program for South African preschool children, The Little Library, which won the prestigious IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award at the Children’s Book Fair in Bologna. In 1996, she emigrated with her husband and two children to Chicago, where she has continued to write books for preschool children and work as an early literacy specialist in schools. In the past few years, as the librarian for a day care center, Sue has returned to an old passion: children's poetry. She believes that teaching children poems to perform is the best pathway to learning to read. She recently formed a publishing company Corker Publishing with Brad Cornelius. The mission of the company is to provide the best books for the youngest readers. Go to www.corkerpublishing.com to see books, free downloadable music and animated videos all designed to engage and delight children between 2 - 6 years of age. Sue continues to teach, write and run early literacy workshops in Chicago.
