Currently Sutton teaches Critical Writing at Colorado Early Colleges, Denver, CO. Her 2nd book of Poetry, "Burning My Birth Certificate," won the Snyder Prize from Ashland Poetry Press, 2016; Sutton's first book of Poetry, "Pocket Gospel," was published by Sheep Meadow Press, 2012.
Her Poetry was chosen by Robert Pinsky for Scribner's 25th Anniversary edition of BAP, "The Best of the Best American Poetry," 2013. David Wagoner chose her poetry for BAP 2009; Rita Dove, BAP 2000; & Natasha Trethewey, BAP 2017.
She taught Critical Writing at the University of Pennsylvania where she was nominated by her students for the Teacher-of-the-Year Award, 2003. She gave a Lecture on WW I Poetry for MIT, “The Pleasures of Poetry” Series, Jan. 5, 2022.
Sutton holds an MS in Journalism from Northwestern University; and an MFA in Creative Writing from Boston University where she was the George Starbuck Creative Writing Scholarship/Fellowship winner.
