Bob Upson is a fire protection engineer 3 at Amentum Technical Services, currently providing engineering support for Savannah River Remediation at the Department of Energy Savannah River Site in South Carolina. He formerly served as the Manager of Engineering Services for the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA). He is a fire marshal and retired career firefighter with over 35 years of experience in fire protection including code enforcement, fire sprinkler industry representation, and codes and standards administration. He currently serves as a member of NFPA technical committees including NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code; NFPA 551: Guide for the Evaluation of Fire Risk Assessments; and NFPA 770: Standard on Hybrid (Water and Inert Gas) Fire-Extinguishing Systems.
Mr. Upson holds a Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Connecticut and Charter Oak State College. He has served as a career fire department training officer and adjunct instructor at the Connecticut Fire Academy. He has developed and delivered technical presentations and training seminars on many topics related to fire protection to large and small groups throughout the United States.
