Ellen E. Jones

Ellen E. Jones holds two undergraduate degrees, one in Theatre and one in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her Master of Fine Arts is from Indianan University, Bloomington.

She is a member United Scenic Artist Local 829. Her credits include more than twenty five years of professional work around the country. Her designs have been seen at numerous companies including: Victory Gardens Theatre, Raven Theatre, Apple Tree Theatre, Stage Left Theatre, and Chicago Dramatists' Workshop in Chicago; Abingdon Theatre Company in New York, and Lost Nation Theatre in Montpelier, VT.

Ms. Jones' professional career has been intertwined with academic posts at many educational institutions including Lake Forest College, Loyola University of Chicago, Hampshire College, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Florida, Williams College Allegheny College and Bemidji State University and Youngstown State University.

Previous service to the field includes holding officer positions with the United States Institute of Theatre Technology, Inc. as both a Lighting Vice-Commissioner and Lighting Commissioner and as Co-Chair of the Caucus on Human Issues. She has also served as a grants peer panelist and freelance consultant to several municipal and state agencies including New York State Council for the Arts and the Chicago Office of Fine Arts.

Ms. Jones has focused on introducing sustainability in theatre design and production to interested schools and theatre companies. She has presented on the topic at LDI, USITT, ATHE, and the inaugural 2012 Sustainability in Theatre Conference in Minneapolis. In 2015 she was trained by former Vice-President Al Gore to share information about Climate Change as a Leader in the Climate Reality Corps.

Her interest expanded to include secondary public education; ironically completing that transition in Spring of 2020. With a focus linking historical events and social concerns, she hopes to help youngsters communicate their vision of an equitable world and a promising future.
