I love to land in a new city, dump my luggage in the hotel, and then set out with a map in one hand and a good guide book in the other. The only problem is, it’s sometimes so difficult to find a good guide book.

I’ve tried lots over the years, and they are either far too brief, just telling you about the main sights and things you already know, or they are full of dreary facts that make your eyes close just looking at them. I mean do you really need to know that the door hinges of a church were made in 1526 – unless they are made of solid gold of course!

Worse, guidebooks often don’t even tell you how to get from one sight to another, as if you are magically going to transport there.

So I decided to construct my own guides to the places I love, pulling out all the interesting facts and sights, ditching all the tedious detail, and explaining exactly what route to take. I have tried to take interesting routes and locate obscure but fascinating snippets about what you can see as you explore.

So I hope you enjoy reading my guides,

Happy Strolling
