Frank Thornton

Frank Thornton owns and runs Blackthorn Information Security, providing digital forensics and information security services. Prior to founding Blackthorn, was a police detective and forensic specialist, with a background in information technology. Mr. Thornton has more than 30 years of experience in forensic science and criminal investigations, previously holding positions in a several police departments, including one appointment as the Chief of Police, and one as a forensic specialist and crime scene investigator with a state forensic laboratory.

Frank Thornton has been accepted in US Federal District Court and Vermont Superior Court as an expert in digital forensics.

In the course of his law enforcement career, Frank Thornton has investigated or assisted in the investigation of approximately seventy-five homicides and thousands of other crime scenes. Additionally, he was a member of the workgroup that established ANSI Standard "ANSI/NIST-CSL 1-1993 Data Format for the Interchange of Fingerprint Information."

Mr. Thornton holds current certifications as a Certified Computer Examiner (CCE) by the International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners®, as well as a Mobile Phone Seizure Certification (MPSC) by BK Forensics. His past certifications have included a Class One (Homicide) Death Investigator, AccessData Certified Examiner® (ACE), and AccessData Mobile Examiner® (AME).
