Laura Smith

Laura enjoyed being a full time public safety dispatcher for over 25 years. During that time, she served as a member of two hostage negotiation teams and was instrumental in developing her department’s first tactical dispatch team. She also taught courses in radio and telephone procedures and critical incident handling during the Dispatcher Academy at Butte College.

During that same time period, Laura and her husband Ken started their own mortuary transportation business, K. W. Smith Mortuary Transportation. The business has been very successful, and Laura was eager to write a book about their unique business to help other people who were looking for a small business opportunity. The book, “How To Start Your Own Mortuary Transportation Business” was well received.

The success of the first book prompted Laura to write a second book, this time focusing on what she has learned in her career as a public safety dispatcher. Having answered thousands of 911 calls over the years, Laura knew how stressful the process can be for someone who has never had to call 911 before, and may have no idea of the call taking process. She knew how important the role of the caller can be during an emergency, and how everyone’s safety might depend on the accurate and timely information from the caller. This led Laura to write her second book, “Tips From An Emergency Dispatcher: The Book To Read Before You Need 911”. It is a valuable guide for anyone who might have to call 911 someday.

In addition to writing, Laura enjoys driving classic cars, riding her bike, walking her dog Shelby and line dancing. She and her husband of 38 years live in Oroville, CA.

Laura’s goal is to become a successful on-line entrepreneur through writing, marketing and promoting e-books, as well as selling products through her partnership with Amazon’s FBA program.
