James Dempsey

James Dempsey was born in Liverpool, U.K., and came to the United States to study for a master's degree. He spent more than 20 years in journalism before taking an early retirement to teach and write. He has published a book of modernizations of the poetry of Geoffrey Chaucer--an early love of his--as well as two novels, Zakary's Zombies and Murphy's American Dream. His most recent book is a biography of Scofield Thayer, poet, art collector, publisher, and editor of the influential magazine The Dial during the 1920s.
