Barry Appleton

An award winning writer, Barry Appleton was the principal writer on the long-running and highly successful The Bill for over 7 years. He has some 60 episodes to his name, including most of the original 1 hour episodes and then numerous half hour ones broadcast throughout the 80's and 90's. From here, he progressed to Taggart, writing a number of these 3 hour thrillers. His pedigree spans across nearly all the other crime series in the 80s, such as CATS Eyes, Circle of Deceit and the spy series Mr Palfrey of Westminster.

In 1993, Barry won the McCallen award for Best Original Drama Serial for Taggart and was represented by William Morris for a number of years.

Wishing to leave at the top and escape to the sun, Barry retired early to live in Cyprus where he wrote a number of theatre plays to pass the time. He has recently come out of retirement to write a screenplay that has won a highly competitive EU film making contract.

Once again bitten by the bug, Barry is currently writing a book, a tense and colourful thriller set in Cyprus.
