Michael Garfield

Michael A. Garfield (1946 to Present) was raised in a wealthy home in Westchester County, New York. While schooled at Prep Schools he graduated Harrison High, Harrison N.Y. in 1964. College in Denver turned out to be a replete with duplicate courses and even the same books as prep school. Bored, Michael joined the Army and began his real education.

Becoming an Officer and later after a tour in Vietnam he entered the business world, a Conglomerate, as the assistant to the President and the Chairman of the Board. The Company held banks, manufacturing facilities, Farm retail stores, Oil drilling companies and land developments. Michael's responsibilities included analyzing companies that were failing and owed money to the bank to save them or take them apart for asset value.

Realizing that the business education he was receiving was far greater then a formal education he never completed his BSBA. Within 6 years He was President of his own company.

After 10 years a change took place in his core beliefs and he left the conventional business world and "Followed his Bliss". He owned a Shitake Mushroom farm, A Salmon Fishing Boat, A School that taught Massage, Nutrition, and Hypnosis. Traveled to China and attended ,Guang An Men Teaching Hospital in Beijing, China. As this phase passed he reentered business in Real Estate, Mortgages, Pursued a Law degree and opened a legal document company and served as the Pro Se Coordinator for Monroe County Florida handling about 2000 family law cases. Along the way he opened 8 different restaurants. Seven were in California wine country and the last was in Bocas Del Toro, Republic of Panama. He discovered Bocas after retiring when he and his wife were sailing through the Caribbean, Central and South America. After 3 years at sea they sold the sail boat and decided to write about it all.
