Carrol Dadisman

Carrol Dadisman, a native of Jefferson, GA, graduated from the University of Georgia in 1956. On campus, he was editor of The Red and Black student newspaper, president of Blue Key and a member of Sigma Delta Chi, Gridiron, Omicron Delta Kappa and X Club. His 41-year career on Georgia and Florida daily newspapers included editorship of The Columbus Ledger and Enquirer and The Marietta Daily Journal, and managing editorship of The Augusta Chronicle and The Macon News. He was president and publisher of Knight-Ridder's Tallahassee Democrat for 16 years before retiring in 1997.

Dadisman is a longtime board member of The Red and Black Publishing Co., the non-profit corporation that maintains the 120-year-old tradition of student journalism at the University of Georgia. In 2009, he began researching and writing "Dear Old U-G-A," a history of the university focused on student life and campus trends and traditions since 1893 -- based primarily on student newspaper reports through the decades. The hardback, 384-page book was published in June, 2013. It includes 225 historic photos and more than 2,000 student names, fully indexed.

Dadisman was a frequent columnist while associated with the Tallahassee, Columbus and Marietta newspapers. During a fellowship to work with independent newspapers in Russia in 1998, he wrote a manual on market research for Russian newspapers. He and his wife, the former Mildred Sparks, a 1957 UGA graduate, reside in Tallahassee.
