Writing a novel definitely took Karen outside of her “city of comfort.” But she agrees it was worth the hard work and risk. She had a story to tell about life experiences: Gutsy romantic love (something not easily found, and often lost); soul-tickling romantic Italy; delectable food and wine (especially pasta and Chianti); and passionate living and traveling.

So, she put pen to paper, not sure of what she was getting herself into. The experience was sometimes easy, always challenging -- and worth every minute.

Karen spent her career in medical device marketing, but now works part-time in southwest Florida. Recently, she lived in Italy for six months and in that time found many cousins in Lazio.
