James W. Reapsome

Jim Reapsome grew up as a sports writer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A history major at Franklin and Marshall College, he went on to the Armed Forces Information School and wrote news for the Army at Fort Carson, Colorado. After his service time, he returned to sports writing for the Garland (Texas) Daily News while studying four years for his Th.M. dgree at Dallas Theological Seminary. His writing career next led him to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in Chicago and then to The Sunday School Times in Philadelphia. While there he helped to found The Evangelical Missions Quarterly in 1964 and served as its editor until he retired in 1997. He did free-lance writing and editing until he joined Christianity Today as managing editor in 1979. He continued writing adult curriculum studies for Zondervan and David C. Cook and taught writing for 10 years at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. In 1991 he received the Journalist of the Year award from the National Association of Evangelicals. He and his wife Martha began writing Bible study guides for InterVarsity Press and subsequently for Harold Shaw (now part of Random House) and Zondervan. Their IVP study guides have sold more than 640,000 copies. After retiring in 1997, Jim published "Ten Minutes a Day With Jesus" with Baker (now retitled "Knowing Jesus"). His latest book is "The Imitation of St. Paul" (Cascade Books). His latest IVP Bible study guide (with Cathy Maddams) is "Grief: God's Help in Times of Sorrow."
