Robert L. Spude is a historian who retired from the National Park Service in 2013. He specializes in mining history, but has authored a number of studies on the history of the southwest and environmental history, as well. He helped found the Mining History Association, is an active member of the Western History Association, and a number of western state history associations. He lives in Santa Fe with his author wife, Catherine Holder Spude, his younger daughter, and two dogs, Sami and Droopy.
