Dr. Cynthia Schofield is a thirty year veteran of the teaching profession. Her history encompasses teaching a wide variety of grade levels and disciplines. She earned her Master Degree in 1983 from Western Michigan Universtity and her Ph.D. in 1996 from Michigan State University. Her first decade of teaching focused on work with emotionally impaired students. She has dedicated the past twenty years to teaching English Language Arts at the high school level, and also served as adjunct professor at local colleges including University of Michigan - Flint, Jackson Community College, and Michigan State University.
Dr. Schofield is a speaker, staff trainer, and has organized and presented workshops and seminars for teaching professionals throughout the continental United States. She has been awarded numerous grants directly benefiting her school and most importantly her students. An active member of the Michigan Education Association since 1983, Dr. Schofield continues her union work in an effort to improve the teaching experience for subsequent generations of educators.
Additionally, she has co-authored two books, Guided Highlighted Reading: A close-reading Strategy for Navigating Complex Text, followed by Reading to the Core: Learning to Read Closely, Critically and Generatively to meet Performance Tasks.
Dr. Schofield’s long career has, and will continue to be, strongly influenced by her heart felt commitment to creating critical readers and writers who can actively participate in their democracy.
