Kathryn Hackett Bales

Kathryn Hackett Bales lives in Elko, Nevada with a Rottweiler and two pit bulls in the home of four rescued cats, who allow them to remain as long as their manners are up to feline standards.

She spent several years as a humane officer in Washington State before moving to Oregon and becoming an animal control officer. She found her new job too depressing, and began driving a city bus, which she did until her retirement in 2002. During this time, she was also active in the Navy Reserve, and her squadron was activated for Desert Storm. She is currently a freelance reporter for the Elko Daily Free Press.

Her new novel, "Crazy Ladies on a Bus", is scheduled for release soon and tells the story of a large group of pit bull owners who have only met via a pit bull list on the internet. They rent an old beater bus and cruise around the country, picking up groups of list members and their dogs. Their plan is to fill the bus and go someplace where they can relax, dip their toes in the ocean, and get acquainted. What happens to them along the way is guaranteed to keep you laughing even if you don't like dogs. Its sequel, "Crazy Ladies on a Train", is due out in 2014.
