ALDERCON, I AM HERE!

Chris Preuitt lives with his wife Darcie in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Oregon. They spend their summers in Alaska fishing and filming. Their video adventures can be viewed on YouTube in the Darchris Journals series. Chris’ first book "Now, That I Think About It!" was a humorous anthology about his many years of misadventures in the outdoors. As he puts it, “I didn’t start writing until investing nearly fifty years into research.”

At the age of 17 Chris was in the US Army on his first assignment in a war zone. Less than two years later he was again in an Asian war, this time serving in the Air Cavalry in Viet-Nam. In his own words, “I’ve seen the world population triple in my lifetime and I’ve witnessed mankind at its worst. War is the ultimate destructive behavior that we idiotic citizens of earth engage in. Only slightly less damaging has been our ability to generate filth and foul the planet with our collective waste. When our world reaches the year 2100 I won’t be here, but I wonder what our civilization will be like? That’s what I’ve written about in the book "Aldercon, I Am Here!”

NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT...

Here's what Chris had to say about his first book, "Now That I Think About It...":

"It's said that each person has a book in them. I'm sure this must be true because almost everyone that has read my book Now That I Think About It... has stated that "I should write a book because I've had a lot of experiences like the ones you wrote about!" Then they chuckle, shake their head and maybe let a little smile cross their face as they remember some experience that occurred perhaps years in the past. And that...is exactly why I wrote the book.

Memories!

You can catch fish, bag game, gather mushrooms, take pictures, identify birds, or commune with nature, but what you collect are memories. Some memories, the best memories, have to be earned. They were generally the times when something went haywire. The tent leaked, your truck broke down, raccoons raided your food supplies or the fish didn't bite - but the mosquitoes did! Whenever a trip is relived around a campfire, these events are the ones that are talked about and laughed about the most. My goal in writing this book was that when reading it, at some point you will say:

"That happened to me!"

Some of the stories in Now That I Think About it... were first published in outdoor magazines. "I Never Met a Clan That I Didn't...Nevermind!" was the first. This story, like all the others, is true!"
