I wrote my first story when my dog Sandy died. I was 7 years old. Throughout my school years, I wrote poetry and short stories. When I read "The Catcher in the Rye," I knew I'd found a style that resonated. The short stories in "In Our Time" also resonated. Keeping my prose spare and lean is one of my goals. For several years I wrote a social events column for two small town newspapers. People would always turn to my column to discover how I had started each week's version.

I graduated from Colorado State University's Creative Writing Program with a collection of short stories, "Those Were The Days." One of the stories, "Netchekepringel," won a third prize in The Rocky Mountain Writer's Forum. After I got over my fear of computers (having lost a huge inventory to a power outage), I enrolled in a desktop publishing class at the local junior college. My projects included an illustrated children's book and my first novel, "Grave Sight." From then on, I spent all my free time writing, pasting up folios, making Xerox copies, and binding my own books. They were homely but I loved them.

In the 80's I found an agent, who called my book "a brilliant failure." Basking in that praise, I continued writing fiction until I began working in the computer industry. Putting the drafts and cover letters into envelopes and hitting the post office wasn't as easy with my commute and a full-time job. The act of writing and the need to write vanished as I sat at my computer every day at Apple, where I managed a documentation group for Professional Video Applications.

When I realized I could publish through Kindle eBooks, I was ecstatic! I unearthed the hard and soft copies of my 9 novels and a couple of unfinished ones and began putting my work out into the world. This is possibly the most exciting time of my life! I managed to complete the two novels that had been waiting for over 15 years and I have ideas and characters roaming around waiting their turn.

Most of my fiction has its roots in reality, but sometimes when I review an old work I cannot distinguish between what really happened and what I imagined.
