I have over 40 years experience in pastoral ministry leadership. Having now transitioned from the Senior Pastor role, my passion is to pass on those things learned from the ups and downs of my own journey to help others navigate the many demands they will face. I also have a passion for equipping emerging ministry leaders and to help them reach their fullest ministry potential. I like to think that I have reached the stage of life and ministry where I can 'father" other pastors and I want to pass on the things I have learned.
Ministry leadership is a most privileged and fulfilling responsibility but it can also be at times a very tough gig. Through my experiences and observations I have found that it is the emotional demands of ministry more than anything else that can cause leaders to quit.
Research shows that a high proportion of leaders suffer from severe levels of burnout from the hard realities, hurdles and vulnerabilities that cause many to sink into despair and stumble.
Having ‘been there done that’ my desire is to help leaders understand and minimise the emotional vulnerabilities that might lead to ‘giving up’ and to identify the keys that build sustainability and emotional resilience. My book ‘Ministry Staying Power – in for the long haul’ (a revision of Staying power - Surviving ministry long term) addresses these matters.
My great joy is to personally mentor, train or support ministry leaders to help them flourish and reach their fullest ministry potential
I currently coordinate the Pastor’s Support Strategy for C3 Pacific Churches to encourage the health and wellbeing of Pastors. It is a privilege to regularly speak at various churches and conferences and also serve on the Mentor Development Team for Verve Lead, Australia. I am married with three children and 7 grandchildren. I enjoy the simple pleasures of life, being in nature, coffee with friends or a good book to read. The occasional tropical holiday is always the icing on the cake (pre Covid that is!)
