Paul A. Marks

Paul A. Marks, M.D. is President Emeritus of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center(MSKCC) and a member of the Sloan Kettering Institute(SKI). For almost 60 years he has done cancer research discovering an effective anti-cancer drug. He received his AB and MD degrees from Columbia University; trained at the National Institutes of Health(1952-55) and the Pasteur Institute(1961-62) and joined the faculty of Columbia Medical School where he rose to Professor in 1968 and became the Dean of the medical school and Vice President for Medical Sciences(1970-1980). From 1980-1999, he was President of MSKCC.

He has published over 400 scientific articles in scholarly journals,received many honors for his work, including honorary degrees from Institutions in the US and abroad and the US President's National Medal of Science.

His research focused on the biology of cancer and the discovery of new therapy. A drug he discovered is being used to treat certain types of lymphomas.
