Alan R. Holyoak

Hi!

I’m Alan Holyoak, a marine biologist with interests and expertise in the diversity of life, marine and freshwater biology, ecology, evolution, environmental science and biological illustration.

I earned BS and MS degrees in Zoology from BYU, and a PhD in Biology from UC Santa Cruz. I thoroughly enjoyed my 30-year career as a college and university professor. In addition to teaching courses in the areas mentioned above, I taught field courses in marine ecology and/or carried out research at the Friday Harbor Labs (U of Washington), The Joseph M Long Marine Laboratory (UC Santa Cruz), Hopkins Marine Station (Stanford U), the U of Hawaii and the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (U of Oregon).

Since retiring, I've enjoyed writing and illustrating laboratory manuals covering various fields of biological diversity, including Invertebrate Zoology, Ichthyology, Animal Diversity, and The Diversity of the Eukaryotes. I produced these lab manuals and made them available via Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing platform primarily to provide an affordable alternative to the extremely expensive laboratory support materials currently offered by textbook publishing companies.

If you are an instructor interested in reviewing any of these lab manuals for possible adoption, please send me an email using your institutional email address and I will happily provide you with access.
