Steve Wolfson is an award winning writer and film-maker. He was
born in Omaha, Nebraska, raised in St. Pete Beach, Florida and now
lives in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Steve's latest book "Aunty Jane Knits Up A Storm" is a story about loss and healing through the power of friendship, knitting and community. Aunty Jane was award First Prize for best children's picture book from the North Street Book Prize. I won best children's picture book on grief from the Independent Press Awards.
"Filbert the Lonely Flamingo" started many years ago when Steve was 11 and moved from Omaha, Nebraska, to St. Pete Beach, Florida. In Florida, he loved seeing flamingos at tourist attractions. Years later, as a documentary filmmaker, Steve saw his first wild flamingos on a lake in Mozambique, Africa. The final story came about Filbert came together with the Florida influence of his co-author and sister Ellen Wolfson Valladeres. One last and very important ingredient was added by the talented illustrator from the U.K., Charity Russel. In the winter, Steve often feels like Filbert and wants to fly back to Florida.
Steve's children’s book, “Monster Cheese”, began when his sister Ellen sneezed at Lake Louise in Banff National Park. The story of Ellen's funny sneeze grew into a story he told to his children. It soon became the story of a 'Sneeze at Louisa Louise the started a Monster Cheese." Monster Cheese then became a book and a very popular story with children and their parents and grandparents.
