David E. Navarro

David E. (DE) Navarro is an author, wandering poet-philosopher (Pure Land School of Haiku), contemporary poet, essayist, editor, and non-denominational bible minister who lives in Tucson Arizona with his wife and family. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Arts and Humanities) from Purdue University, and holds degrees in Communications and Theology as well. In 1980 he became a published poet in the Purdue Exponent Literary Edition, Winter Issue. He has researched, studied, authored, and taught in multiple disciplines for over 35 years.

He was born in Newport, Rhode Island, and grew up as a young child on the Southside of inner city Chicago. By ten he had moved to the woods and wilds of rural Crown Point, Indiana, his boyhood and coming of age hometown, where he learned to love nature, free to roam in fields of swaying grass and dense wooded copses rich with ponds and swamps. He spent a few years in suburban Munster, Indiana until he went off to study English and literature at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

He says, "Growing up as a city boy, country boy and child of nature gave me a diverse and eclectic background: Chicago gave me my feet, a foundation for action; rural Crown Point gave me my hands, a solid work ethic; and the wilds and woods of Crown Point forged my heart, compassion for what is real and true in life." He followed his feet into the military and served in the USAF for 10 years. He has served from his heart in the ministry for 35 years. And he has tirelessly worked with his hands in multiple disciplines and professions, always centered around writing and editing.

Over the years his poems, articles, and essays have been published in various magazines, publications, literary journals, anthologies, and online by other publishers. In 2000 he decided to begin to compile these into books and publish them, along with new material. He is also an avid haiku poet (haikuist) who was introduced to haiku at 19 years old and has studied it in-depth for almost 40 years. He wrote his capstone thesis on the far-reaching ramifications and impact of haiku on Western culture.

He founded NavWorks Press in 2000 and was a key figure of the sub-cultural Myspace Poetry Movement running the top rated and "famous" NavWorks Press Poetry Forum. He now owns and moderates three groups: Poetry & Poetry Resources, and Book Story, on LinkedIn; and the Pure Land School of Haiku on Facebook.

"Check out my work and come along for the journey," he says, "I have a lot of books in me and some interesting, quirky, out of the ordinary, and unique stuff to write to the world."
