Robert James Jacobi

You could say I've been in the entertainment business my whole life. Actually, it would be more accurate to say that I was in the entertainment industry before I even took my first breath. My mother was a Radio City Music Hall Rockette, which meant I was bouncing around in her stomach for at least one Christmas Show.

My father was a stagehand at Avery Fisher Hall in Manhattan. When I was a kid I would take the bus up from the Jersey Shore and visit him all the time. I remember lying down on a small couch behind the stage listening to the performers rehearse as I slowly fell asleep. Not every kid could say that they feel asleep to the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, or Pavarotti, or all the other countless entertainers I had the pleasure of nodding off to...sorry guys...nothing personal, I was just a kid.

My first job out of college was working as a production assistant on the news show: Inside Edition. Two years later I drove across the country to Hollywood, California were I worked on several television shows including the entertainment news show - Extra.

After Hollywood, I returned back to the east coast, moved into Manhattan, and started working as a stagehand under the jurisdiction of Local One IATSE. I worked on many broadway shows including: Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues, Chicago, and countless others.

My first attempt at writing was a screenplay. A Tale of Manhattan was originally a screenplay, until one day I decided to test the literary waters and create my first middle grade fantasy/ adventure novel. I've always been fascinated with anything dealing with fantasy, adventure, and history. I guess that's why I loved reading Tolkien, Lewis, and Verne.

I owe a great deal to my family who have supported me from day one on my writing odyssey. Especially my wife and two boys who never get sick of my stories, or hearing me say: "What do you think of this?" My dog Max even lends his support by lying at my side as I write late into the night.

On a personal note: I've been in one tornado, three hurricanes, one fire, one flood, one earthquake (too many), two blackouts (way too many) ...and ten days without power during Hurricane Sandy. So I figured if I've been through all those things in my life so far, then there was certainly nothing that would stand in-between me and my passion for writing.
