Jay Floyd

Jay Floyd is a Cleveland-born writer, technology leader, coach, husband, father, and founder of Tomorrowlight Books. Raised in a single-parent home and shaped by Cleveland’s neighborhoods, churches, music, sports, humor, and contradictions, he learned early to pay attention to how families survive, what communities remember, and how ordinary people become legends.

His life has moved through several creative and professional worlds. He has been a rapper, actor, motivational speaker, media entrepreneur, and technology professional, building a career of more than two decades in data and engineering leadership. He has also spent years coaching managers and senior technology professionals, helping people become stronger leaders without losing the parts of themselves that made them worth following.

Faith and fatherhood are central to his life and deeply influence his writing. His work explores Black family, manhood, identity, memory, inheritance, popular culture, belief, power, grief, redemption, and the stories people pass down to explain who they are. His fiction ranges from neighborhood realism rooted in the Midwest to speculative worlds built around deeply human questions.

Through Tomorrowlight Books, Floyd is building an independent home for culturally rooted storytelling across genres. He now lives in the Raleigh, North Carolina, area with his family. His debut novel, Thunderbird & Kool-Aid, returns to Cleveland in the summer of 1988 for a story about three teenagers, one unforgettable uncle, a cardinal-red Thunderbird, and the complicated ways families turn flawed people into legends.
