Chris Hosea

I've written two collections of poetry, Double Zero and Put Your Hands In. My first book of poems, Put Your Hands In (2014), was published upon being awarded the 2013 Walt Whitman Award for best first book of poems by distinguished poet John Ashbery. Ashbery wrote, "One feels plunged in a wave of happening that is about to crest." Of my second book, Double Zero (2016), The Brooklyn Rail writes, "More than any recent poetry collection, [Double Zero] captures the unlimited economy of text and experience in 2016...a statement for our generation."

In addition to writing poetry, I like to work on conceptual, text-based art projects, often in collaboration with Oakland painter and textile artist Kim Bennett. Our collaborative full-gallery exhibition Over Time Across Space was staged at Transmitter in Brooklyn in 2015. My ongoing interactive postcard project, What Do You Feel?, may be seen at chrishosea.com.

I was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey. I graduated from Harvard College, and later the University of Massachusetts Amherst MFA Program. I live in Brooklyn and work in advertising.
