James Dick

Author James Dick writes about nature and her animals, nostalgic history, beautiful places and smiling faces in differing settings and how his faith impacts him. His stories are true and nostalgic, or historical fiction, dealing with things that have happened in his life and from his study of the past and what they have meant to making him who and what he is. He is a master of nostalgia, loving to write about the way things truly used to be.

His most recent book, "The Long Road Forward," released on October 1, is the second book in his Coastal Carolina series, which tracks the life of former Confederate soldier Josh Eldridge as he rebuilds his war-shattered life back home in Currituck County, North Carolina, just across the Currituck Sound from the beautiful Outer Banks. He trains and becomes a successful tugboat Captain, covering the Albemarle and Hampton Roads regions delivering goods to rural residents in remote water-locked areas. The books contain adventure, sorrow, joy, and a whole lot of faith in a fictional story using a historical background. The first book in the series was “The Long Road Back,” which covered his life from his release from a Union Army prisoner of war camp to 1873. Book 2 picks up from there and takes him forward to 1885. The final sequel will follow.

His previous book, "Summers at Old Nags Head: Boyhood Glory Days of the 1950s and ''60s," told his true story of growing up during summers on those glorious Outer Banks. He considers it his legacy book since he wanted to write it for over forty years. That goal was successfully reached when it was published.

This follows his true story of falling in love with and marrying a beautiful woman who loves horses. Entitled "Confessions of a Horse Lady," it details the trials and tribulations he went through, all for the love of a "Horse Lady." After all, when a "Horse Husband" loves his "Horse Lady," he will do anything to please her.

James began writing as he neared retirement and has continued on ever since. He plans to continue writing as long as the Good Lord allows. He writes from his home in rural North Florida where he lives with his wife, horses, dogs and barn cats.
