Arthur E Apolinario MD

Arthur E. Apolinario, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.F.P. is a Board-Certified Family Physician in North Carolina and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He was also a TEDx Speaker in 2012.

In 2007 he suddenly found himself divorced, single, lonely, and fat. He looked around and saw so many of his colleagues in medicine also in the same boat. He thought, "How can I be a good patient instructor if I can't even walk the walk?" With that he began on a massive self-improvement journey that not only led to weight loss, but improvements in his style and communication and social skills.

He has been trained not only in medicine and public health, but enhances his practice with hypnosis, neurolinguistic programming, and emotional freedom technique. He is well known for effectively treating obesity, smoking, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, and many other common yet “difficult to treat” conditions with this new knowledge with much greater success than in the past.

He was born in New Jersey to immigrant Filipino parents, and comes from a long line of physicians on his father's side, where his mother was a post-anesthesia regiestered nurse. You could say the art of medicine flows through his veins.

He got his BA in English Literature at Gannon University in Erie, PA and concentrated in Shakespearean literature and drama. He then trained at the prestigious Tulane University School of Medicine to get his MD, and at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine to get his Masters in Public Health in New Orleans, Louisiana, concentrating in Health Systems Management.

“Dr. Art” was voted “Best Doctor” by the citizens of Sampson County, North Carolina through the Sampson Independent reader’s poll in 2008. He actively teaches medical students as well as physician assistants in training. He was previously in charge of the NC Office of Rural Health Rural Practitioner training program, training Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in Rural-Based Care, and was recruited by the North Carolina Medical Society’s Community Practitioner program to provide rural care.

Dr. Art is active in the community, served several terms on the Board of Directors of the U Care Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention program, including 2 terms as Board President and served the NC Governor’s Crime Commission, Council on Domestic Violence under Governor Easley.

In 2001 he was the recipient of the AMA Young Physician’s Section Community Service Award for his work in domestic violence prevention.

He has successfully passed policy relating to healthcare and childhood obesity as well as domestic violence. He was recently the final TED speaker at TEDxRaleigh 2012, and was voted one of the top dating coaches in the nation in January 2013 by Casanova Crew in Hollywood California. And he especially enjoys his time with his 2 children.
