Jonathan Blake Huer

Jonathan is currently Director of Emerging Technologies and Media Development at Ball State University. He is responsible for innovating outside of the traditional IT infrastructure, exploring disruptive technologies, and applying those to create opportunities for the campus community. He and his staff have applied their knowledge to a wide variety of campus projects including a paperless process for the Board of Trustees, feature film quality MOOCs for the Integrated Learning Institute (iLearn), and a mobile app for Recreation Services. Community projects include transitioning the Indiana State Legislature to an electronic process capable of saving 15 tons of paper a year and creating the first official Garfield iOS app for PAWS, Inc.

Jonathan came to Ball State in the fall of 2006 to create the Digital Corps. The Digital Corps provides a unique on campus job for undergraduate students with aspirations to work in innovative and creative fields. Digital Corps students work on real world projects from around the country in a west coast start-up culture where they learn technical and professional skills that supplement the instruction they receive in their traditional academic classes. Digital Corps students learn and practice everything from interviews to pitching to negotiation as they move up the ranks from Apprentice to Specialist to Master. Combined with the high quality work in their portfolio, Digital Corps students are uniquely situated to impact the professional world upon graduation.

Jonathan is an Apple Distinguished Educator, an Adobe Education Leader, and an award winning app developer and filmmaker. He has his BA in design from UCLA and his MFA in motion picture producing from USC.
