L. A. Alexander

L.A. Alexander (Lily Alexander) writes about fictional world-building and teaches screenwriting, media, global literature, comparative mythology and world-building. She belongs to a family of three generations of educators and scholars; has earned several graduate degrees - in film/narratology, anthropology and comparative cultural studies. She visited about thirty three countries exploring how people think and feel about their communities and storytelling practices. She has taught at New York University and CUNY, at Brooklyn and Hunter Colleges in New York. In addition to journal publications and the FICTIONAL WORLDS book set, Lily Alexander's work includes five recent essays on world-building, published in the collections REVISITING IMAGINARY WORLDS (2017), THE ROUTLEDGE COMPANION TO IMAGINARY WORLDS (2018) and EXPLORING IMAGINARY WORLDS (2020). An amateur photographer in her free time, she aspires to achieve the "golden mean" and uses the "rule of thirds." Her favorite season is autumn with its fusion of colors: yellow, orange, and bordeaux. Why do myths and fairytales so often rely on the number three? Perhaps because this (magical) number symbolizes for us the ideas of crossroads, opportunity and choice.
