Jan Statman

Award winning author Jan Statman came out of the East Bronx to East Texas and has spent the better part of a lifetime impersonating a Proper Southern Lady. She likes strong heroines, powerful plot lines, fluffy puppies, and prefers her scotch on the rocks. Her favorite colors are leopard prints and sequins with a dash of magenta. She dispenses chicken soup to the sick and cookies to the thin. When she is not writing she is an artist, author, poet, playwrite, columnist, TV interviewer and mom to three amazing people.

She holds 36 Texas Press Women writing awards, three National Federation of Press Women awards and a National Women's Political Caucus and Radcliffe College award. She is author of “The Battered Woman's Survival Guide,” Taylor Publishing 1990, 2nd edition 1995, Wet Paint, Longview Art Museum, Longview, Texas 1994, co-author of “Living With Environmental Illness,” Taylor Publishing 1998, author of “Raisins and Almonds- and Texas Oil! “Eakin Press, 2003. Her feature stories have appeared in such state and national magazines as Texas Homes, Texas Scene, National Flyer, Republic Scene, and American Woman magazines among others. As a columnist she wrote the Final Word column for the DALLAS MORNING NEWS, Arts Column for the LONGVIEW NEWS JOURNAL and independent features for PINEY WOODS LIVE Magazine.

She is also an award winning artist whose paintings are owned by museums in Italy, Spain and the USA as well as corporate and private collections across the USA
