Marian Leah Knapp

Marian Leah (Gilbert) Knapp was born and raised in Providence, RI. She received her B.A. degree in English Literature from Boston University, an M.A. degree in Anthropology from Hunter College, and, at age 70, a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England. Her goal for doctoral work was to understand the complex environment in which people age. She lives in Newton, MA, writes a column on aging for her local newspaper, and actively works on issues that impact elders within and outside her own community. She has experienced and managed many aspects of aging - caregiver of older loved ones, parent of adult children, grandparent of the future generation, and her own aging. With all of this she values the gift of experience and believes that it is never too late to pursue a dream!

Marian has published four books. "Aging in Places: Reflective Preparation for the Future," "A Steadfast Spirit: The Essence of Caregiving," "The Outermost Cape: Encountering Time." Her latest book, "Prohibition Wine: A True Story of One Woman's Daring in Twentieth Century America," tells the inspiring story of Marian's widowed paternal grandmother who sold illegal alcoholic drinks during Prohibition simply to help feed herself and her six children.
