John Green

John Green has been a journalist for most of his working life, first making television documentaries and latterly as a communications officer for the public service union, UNISON. He has written several biographies of political figures, including a well-received biography of Friedrich Engels which has gone into three reprints. He has also written books on birds and the Welsh countryside. He contributes regular book and theatre reviews and articles to left-wing journals and newspapers.

John Green was co-editor of the Marxist arts magazine Artery (1970 -81), and a

documentary film maker for twenty years, covering social and political issues throughout the world. He published his reminiscences as a documentary film maker in Red Reporter (Artery Publications, 2008).

He is a member of the British Green Party and considers himself a Green Socialist and a Neo-Marxist. Recently he has worked as a co-editor on a volume of poetry by the Venezuelan, Gustavo Pereira and a bi-lingual edition of the lyrics of Victor Jara and one in the pipeline on the Central Americal poets, Rene Otto Castillo and Roque Dalton.
