Cathy Eggerth was born in a small town in Missouri but by the time she was age 10, she had traveled in 15 states. She was an only child and loved the traveling and later on tried to instill that love of traveling in her four children. While her children were growing up, she worked in the school they attended as a music teacher, history teacher, and substitute teacher. While doing so she observed many good things and many bad things that parents did with their children. Later on, while working as a preschool teacher to a class of three year olds, she drew on these experiences to write this book. The parents of her preschool students were doctors, attorneys, surgeons, and nurses, and had spent their entire lives either climbing the corporate ladder or obtaining their high level of education. But now they had babies and small children. Many times the parents would exclaim, "I have these children and I don't know what to do with them!" Listening to her student's parents say this, started her writing, "You Might Be a Good Parent If..." The goal of her book was to provide thoughts and ideas on parenting gleaned from her child rearing years and school teaching years.
