Bryan C. Babcock

Dr. Bryan Babcock earned his doctorate in Ancient History, Languages, and Religion from the University of Bristol and completed a prestigious post-doctoral fellowship at Cambridge University, UK. His research explores how we experience and understand sacred space. Dr. Babcock's latest books include, Trajectories, Sacred Rituals, and Lament: Prayer as a Response to Suffering.

Renowned for his engaging approach to history, he intertwines humor and storytelling to make the past come alive. Now retired from Hartwick College, he spends 4-6 months per year teaching world history on ocean cruises around the world as a Resident Historian.

For his efforts in teaching and research, Dr. Babcock was presented with the prestigious ACCESS course of the year award for his online teaching. In addition, he was named the young scholar of the year by the Institute for Biblical Research.

Bryan is also part of an international disaster assistance response team with Samaritan’s Purse and Water Mission. These teams deploy on a moment’s notice to urgent situations with the mission to save lives and reduce suffering. Bryan has deployed over the past few years to Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Ethiopia, Honduras, Iraq, Syria and the Bahamas.
