Su Gerheim

Su Gerheim is the author of the Florida Writers Association RPLA Award-winning Bayocor’s Adventures – The Secret Cave (Peppertree Press, March 2012), featuring a yellow Labrador puppy, named Bayocor. The second in her series, Bayocor’s Adventures – The Old Carriage House, is scheduled to release in the spring of 2014.

Su grew up in Minnesota, and traveled through the state’s scenic, rural areas which became the setting for her children’s series. She moved to the warm climate of Florida in 1979, where she married her soul mate in 1994. She retired in 2005 to become her husband’s caregiver and they enjoyed fishing, reading and crafting until, in 2008, he lost his battle with cancer.

While grieving, she met her new neighbor who happened to be the Supervisor of the local library. With some cajoling, urging and mentoring, that Librarian convinced Su to attend their writing group meeting as a therapy to release the emotions of her loss. During one of their writing sessions, Bayocor was born.

Su discovered her passion for the written word and while writing her children’s book, she also wrote poetry. Her poetry is unique because it is inspired by her sister’s photography. Having lost her husband years earlier, Su’s sister, Winnie, turned to photography as a grief-therapy and discovered a latent talent for the art.

Gorgeous photographs Winnie sends Su strike chords within Su and poems come out in writing. That new genre has produced a collaborative work for Su and Winnie. They have a new collection of picture-inspired poetry called Sisters – A Catharsis Through Poetry, to be released in late spring of 2014.

Winnie currently lives in Norway and Su has enjoyed visiting her there as well as traveling with her to Sweden and Denmark.

Between visits with Winnie and working on her Bayocor series and poetry, Su keeps busy as a lifetime member of Florida Writers Association and enjoys coordinating their annual, themed, members’ collection contest.

She currently lives in Lake Panasoffkee, FL and enjoys reading, writing, crafting, taking care of her cat, Dusty, and all things Bayocor.
