Jeff Koob

Jeff Koob was born in Tokyo, Japan and grew up as an "Army brat." Although he has spent most of his life in the South, he has also lived in Vienna, Austria (1958-62), West Germany (1970-73), and Kingston, Jamaica (1991-93). After graduating from The Citadel with a BA in English, he served four years in the US Army, then went on to get an MA in psychology at the University of West Georgia on the GI Bill. Jeff has worked for over 30 years as a public sector psychologist. Although most of his work was in community mental health settings, he has also worked in juvenile and adult corrections, and served as ward psychologist on the Detox/Rehab Ward at the University Hospital of the West Indies, in Kingston, Jamaica, as a Peace Corps Volunteer. (He served with his wife, Maria Madeo.) The last nine years of his career were spent as a ward psychologist at South Carolina's largest psychiatric hospital. After the attack on the World Trade Center, he served as a Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Volunteer at Ground Zero. He and his wife are retired and live in Columbia, SC.
