David Wolfe

David Wolfe is a multi-talented high profile paper doll artist, an accomplished writer, acknowledged fashion expert and historian specializing in vintage Hollywood movie costume design.

David had a long and successful career in the world of high fashion, first as a fashion illustrator, based in London where his work was often seen in British Vogue magazine and The London Sunday Times. For 25 years he was a Trans-Atlantic fashion trend spotter and forecaster, traveling between London, Paris, Milan, New York and Los Angeles. His forecast presentations have seen by designers, major retailers and fashion schools across the country.

Paper dolls re-entered David’s life in 2002 when he discovered the community of collectors and artists dedicated to keeping alive the passion that he had as a child. Having ended his career as a fashion illustrator long ago, David is happy that paper dolls allow him to again create glamorous artwork. Since 2008, David has illustrated more that 40 paper doll books for Paper Studio Press as well as paper dolls for magazines, museums, paper doll conventions and special events. His recognizable style is a very deliberate re-creation of the lush, lavish technique employed by artists during the 1940s and '50s, the golden years of paper dolls.

David's titles include classic stars such as Doris Day, Marlene Dietrich, Ava Gardner, Donna Reed and Debbie Reynolds, as well as fashion icons Jackie Kennedy and Princess Diana. His fashion history paper dolls include everything from Polka Dots to Pop Trends.

David resides in Palm Springs, California, where he happily paints paper dolls and reports about fashion on his blog, paperdollywoodblog.blogspot.com.
