"I never remember not horseback riding. It was as natural to me as walking or drinking water."
Lisa grew up in California and southern Arizona during the 1950s and 1960s, in 1973, she left the ranch for marriage and career opportunities. The next twenty years were spent working in the corporate world and raising her two sons. In 1993, she returned to the US/Mexico border ranch until it was sold in 1998 and it became part of the Arizona State Park system.
"After owning and operating a B & B, I thought if I never made a blueberry muffin or bake a lemon curd-filled pancake again, it would be A-OK. So, I sold the B&B in 2005, put my belongings in storage, asked my son to take my dogs, a friend to pasture my horses on his ranch and booked a twenty-one day trip to Thailand to visit a friend. Nine months later, I returned the US after traveling through Asia via buses, planes, trains, and on foot." Upon returning to the US, she stopped in Taos for lunch, and two days later, it became home.
Over the years, she has continued her travels to Europe, South America, New Zealand and has no intention of stopping. "As long as I am able, I will continue to see as much of the world as I can." An author, a student of Hatha yoga, a traveler and grandmother, life's journey continues...
Her memoir, A Slow Trot Home, is a tribute to ranchers, the love of home and a way of life that is romanticized by so many and lived by so few.
