Ted Lerner

Ted Lerner was born and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania in the United States. He was educated at the Lawrenceville School and theUniversity of Michigan. Wanderlust got the best of him and he ended up in Hawaii for seven years beforecontinuing his westward(or eastward) journey to Asia and the Philippines. (One notable trip came when he accompanied the dead body of Ferdinand Marcos back to the Philippines.)

His column, “Hey, Joe” first appeared in 1995 in Manila’s BusinessWorld newspaper. His first book, “Hey, Joe" with the subtitle "A Slice of the City, An American in Manila was released in 2000 and has since become a much loved classic in the Asian travelogue genre.

His second book, "The Traveler and the Gate Checkers" with the subtitle "Sex..Death..Life! On the Road in Asia", is a collection of five unique Asian travel tales. The book was recently re-released.

Besides writing the column and contributing to various international publications, including the Wall St. Journal, and 15 years as the Philippines correspondent forRing Magazine, Ted also does ring announcing for big time boxing events, and television commentary for worldwide pool and billiard championships. He also has his own voiceover production studio.

He live in the Philippines with his Filipina wife and their daughter.
