Pete Boyd

Pete Boyd is a teacher educator. He was previously a teacher and school-based teacher educator then moved into a higher education teacher educator post. During his time in secondary schools Pete taught Geography and Mathematics as well as organising extra curricular outdoor education. He supported the work-based learning of pre-service teachers on placement in school. During his time in higher education he has been a teacher educator and educational researcher but also worked in academic development and research capacity building roles. He is based in the UK and is currently emeritus professor at University of Cumbria and visiting professor at University of Hertfordshire and working as an education consultant. He has concentrated on publishing open access research journal papers and open access chapters but has co-authored three traditional books.

His first book, co-authored with Professor Sue Bloxham, focused on assessment for learning in higher education and has been a key text especially for academic developers and courses on teaching and learning in higher education with over 1000 citations - Sue Bloxham and Pete Boyd (2007) Developing Effective Assessment in Higher Education: A practical guide. His second book, co-authored with Professor Barry Hymer and Dr Karen Lockney, is an advanced reader for beginning or early career teachers focused on classroom teaching in school. His most recent book, co-authored with Dr Pippa Leslie, Professor Jean Murray and Professor Lisa Murtagh, is a practical guide to support the scholarly professional learning of teacher educators. It is aimed at all teacher educators, who may work in schools, colleges and universities, and including those based across the UK and international colleagues. This book is informed by the literature, by our own research, and by our experience of running workshops and short courses for new and experienced teacher educators over the last twenty years.
