Robert Bruce Drynan

Robert Bruce Drynan’s works draw extensively from a storied life abroad the began in Germany, where he served as a linguist with the U.S. Army Security Agency during the Cold War. The experience was the genesis of his lifelong advocacy for American servicemen and women.

His subsequent business career afforded him the opportunity to live, work, and travel abroad, and gave him a front row seat on events that shaped the world in the last half of the twentieth century. He witnessed firsthand the violence of Latin America’s Marxist insurgencies and later of its drug cartels. He also travelled extensively in the Middle East and behind the Iron Curtain.

His books celebrate the selfless service of ordinary servicemen and women who serve on the front lines, and rail at politicians and career officers who send them so casually into harm’s way. They immerse his readers in vignettes of Latin America life told with an intimacy born of personal experience. They bear witness to a bygone life in Eastern Europe before the fall of the Soviet Union. All are framed in a knowledge of history and geography that often reminds the reader of context too often forgotten.
