“Design sketching is an essential design tool in product design. It unites the ‘rational’ and ‘emotional’ sides of design”
When I saw product design sketches for the first time in my life, I recall thinking: “If I could just sketch like that, I would be perfectly happy..."
Studying Industrial Design at the Delft University of Technology, I learned to make those sketches. (which, by the way, indeed made me happier) I also met Koos there, who I eventually teamed up with (both career wise and in daily life).
I started my Industrial Design studies after working shortly in the automotive industry (I was once educated as an Automotive Engineer). During that time I also got my BA in Fine Arts, and worked as an artist. Along the way sketching gradually took over, and I founded Dutch Design Sketching.
In 2007 Koos and I decided to record our experience in design sketching education, as there had not been published much about the subject in years. Our first book 'SKETCHING drawing techniques for product designers' has been, and still is, a worldwide success, and things took off from there, resulting in 'SKETCHING the Basics' and all the translated editions of both books.
Our third book 'SKETCHING product design Presentations' will has been released nationally at the Dutch Design Week (DDW) in October this 2014, and has become internationally available in 2015.
After a time of lecturing at various Universities and Art Academies, I now focus on visualisations and develop design sketching workshops for professionals.
