Emily Gibson

I am currently investing in trauma-informed practices in Central Oregon. Most recently, I served as a Teaching & Learning Coach in high-poverty communities in California and Washington States, implementing a Culture of Hope in Title I schools. I have taught elementary and middle school students for over 20 years, provided professional development for K-12 teachers in writing, Self-Regulated strategy development, and differentiated instruction, and founded a charter school site for at-risk youth. In 2011, I earned my doctorate in school improvement from Boise State University.

One of the greatest gifts of my life was meeting up with Robert Barr for coffee on my way home from Boise after graduation. We have collaborated on writing, presentations, and professional development in schools across the country. We have also written many articles and blog posts, expanding on and supporting our work with Cultures of Hope in schools. When I am not busy professionally, I enjoy riding my bike long distances and camping along the way. I share my life with my horse, Berhwood; my partner, Jay (who also loves to ride bikes!); and an extended family of friends.

When given a glass that is half-full, I say, "I'm just happy to have a glass!"
