I am a CPA and have been for more than 35 years. Most of those years I prepared personal income tax returns as a side to my normal activities involved in planning a retirement.
Early on in my career, I was the Chief Financial Officer of the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois. This provided me with an understanding of the retirement plans of people who work in the public sector.
Next, I worked with a Third-Party Administrator, Benefit Planning Consultants, designing 401(k) plans for small businesses. This provided me with an understanding of retirement plans of people who work in the private sector.
About 20 years ago, I ventured into the arena I am in right now – helping individuals practically plan for their retirement years. During these 20 years, I have been understanding more and more about how different financial strategies and financial products work and more importantly why they don’t work.
I have authored 5 books. The series Confessions of a CPA, reveals why what I was taught to be true as a CPA has turned out not to be true. We have no chance of success if we follow what we are taught in academia, traditional planning, and the popular media.
Together my wife Pam and I celebrate 40 years of marriage together. We have 2 daughters, 4 granddaughters and a grandson. They are the joy of our lives.
For me – this is retirement! Sharing with people around the country some of the financial realities in life that differ greatly from what we have all been taught to believe.
