Ian Cumpstey

Ian Cumpstey lives in Cumbria in the North-West of England. The Language of Birds is his first novel.

He previously lived and worked in Sweden for eight years. He has published three collections of translations of Scandinavian folk ballads: Lord Peter and Little Kerstin (2013), Warrior Lore (2014), and The Faraway North (2016); and also a translation from the medieval Swedish of The Saga of Didrik of Bern (2017); also a collection of retellings of legends from the Gesta Danorum: Stories from Saxo (2019). He is a musician and designs (fancy) playing cards.
