Christopher Burchfield has been researching and writing about the Gold Rush Era of California for more than thirty years. Over this period he and his wife Genendal, have traveled up and down the state, scouring its libraries and history centers, from Barstow to Yreka, often camping out under some very inclement weather conditions. He has had over 100 articles published in various magazines. In 2003 "Choose Your Weapon: the Duel in California, 1847-1861" was published. A second edition was issued in 2013.
During the last decade of the last millennium, while working for three different federal agencies, Burchfield became aware that "human resource" departments were negatively impacting the performance of employees in each unit. But it was only after his employment with the U.S. Forest Service, that he became truly aware of the devastating affects political correctness was having on the management of America's national forests. As a result, his focus of research turned from Western History toward this contemporary issue of great significance. In 2004, after coming across an enormous stash of public documents at a federal records center, he began interviewing many former employees. Finally in 2012 "The Tinder Box: How Politically Correct Ideology Destroyed the U.S. Forest Service" was published.
Chris Burchfield lives in a small town in Northern California, remains married to Genendal, has numerous children and a multitude of grand-children.
