Yolanda Nava

Yolanda Nava is a distinguished journalist, author, and civil rights advocate, and spokesperson for the continental campaign “Women of the Americas,” commemorating the 70th anniversary of the film Salt of the Earth. Born and raised in Los Angeles to parents from Chihuahua, Mexico, she began her career as a Chicana activist and teacher before becoming the first Latina journalist at KNBC-TV. Her work earned her an Emmy Award and national recognition.

Her memoir Through the Dark chronicles her spiritual journey after the sudden loss of her vision and has received multiple Gold and Silver International Latino Book Awards. The Spanish edition, A través de la oscuridad, was recently presented at the Feria Internacional del Libro (FIL) in Guadalajara. Yolanda is also the bestselling author of It’s All in the Frijoles (Simon & Schuster).
