Dennis Dauble

Dennis Dauble (that's me) retired in 2009 after a 35+ year career as a fisheries scientist to spend more time writing about fish and fishing. My natural history guidebook, "Fishes of the Columbia Basin," the recent short story collection, "Bury Me With My Fly Rod," and the most recent book "A Rustic Cabin" were awarded First Place, Excellence in Craft from the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association. A recent review by Writers Digest of "Bury Me With My Fly Rod" stated, “The writing is so eloquent and beautiful. This is a book about fly fishing, but it could be a book of poetry at certain points." Many of my stories focus on the often unspoken connections between human behavior and angling. Others are merely a good read–a day on a river, lake, stream, or wandering the slopes of northeastern Oregon's Blue Mountains. My goal with all writing is ""to both entertain and inform interested readers."

Along with my books, I write for angling magazines and regional newspapers. Newspaper columns have given me the freedom to write on a wider variety of topics of my choice: eating squirrel, hunting mushrooms, gleaning firewood, the aging process, and more. I am a member of the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association, the Outdoor Writers of America, and the Pacific Northwest Writers Association.
