Lisa Van Gemert

Lisa Van Gemert is an educator, speaker, and author who helps teachers and parents better understand and support gifted learners. She specializes in translating the Depth and Complexity framework into practical, classroom-ready strategies that make rigorous thinking accessible and meaningful.

She is the author of several books for educators, parents, and gifted individuals, including the best-selling The Gifted Guild’s Guide to Depth and Complexity and the award-winning Perfectionism: A Practical Guide to Managing Never Good Enough. Her work has been used in classrooms and professional development settings around the world, helping educators move from theory to thoughtful practice.

Lisa’s path to this work has been shaped as much by lived experience as professional roles. She has been a teacher, a paralegal, and a high school assistant principal, as well as a mother to three sons and a caregiver to twelve foster children and two foreign exchange students. Those experiences inform her belief that gifted learners need understanding as much as challenge.

Originally from California, Lisa now lives in Arlington, Texas, with her husband, Steven, and their Golden Retriever, Brody. When she’s not working, she can usually be found reading, organizing something that may or may not need organizing, or diving into genealogy.
